Description

In 1912 the Lyubertsy-Arzamas railway ran south of Urshel settlement. From this moment, the plans to join the Urshel Glass Factory with the new railroad were actively discussed. According to unconfirmed reports, the Cherusti-Urshel railway project was developed before 1917, but its implementation was prevented by the First World War.

In 1926, the Vladimir Glass Trust allocated funds for the purchase of rails and other necessary materials. The railway was built almost perfectly straight (curves were available only near the initial and final points - stations of Cherusti and Urschel). Its length was 20 kilometers. The construction was completed in a few months, during 1926 the first train arrived in Urshel.

Until 1969, the railway line was managed by the transport department of the Urshel Glass Works. On July 1, 1969, the Urshel self-supporting enterprise of industrial and railway transport was created, which belonged to the Ministry of Road Transport of the RSFSR. Later it was transformed into the Urshel interdisciplinary enterprise of industrial railway transport (УМППЖТ), which was included in the Vladimir association of industrial railway transport.

The railway line Cherusti - Urschel is known for being the last departmental line with passenger traffic near Moscow. Passenger traffic existed until 2007 (with short breaks).

As of 2009, the owner of the railway line is "Red Echo" company. Urshel MPPT was finally liquidated in 2001. The railway line is the driveway of the Ursche Glass Factory. There is no passenger traffic on the railway line and most likely will never be.
